Ceramica da cucina dalla "Zona Mura" a Marsala. Le importazioni africane

2014

Object of this written are African cooking ware pieces found during the excavations of the so-called “Zona Mura” in the Archaeological Park of Marsala. Supported by the Soprintendenza BB.CC.AA. of Trapani, research in collaboration with the Universities of Hamburg and Palermo on the topic of “Lilybaeum Archaeological Project” are still in course of making. The stratified kitchen pottery considered was carried out nearby the fortifications’ north-west sector, which showed the remains of structures of Roman age that probably belong to some fortification walls and also to three insulae set in the southern part of the surveyed area. The dynamic pattern of relations between ceramics of different…

The PAH composition of surface sediments from Stagnone coastal lagoon, Marsala (Italy)

2006

Abstract This paper examines the presence, distribution, nature and sources of 22 Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are important environmentally and toxicologically, in sediments from the Stagnone coastal lagoon at Marsala (Italy). Analysis was performed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with selected ion monitoring (SIM). The total concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ranged from 72 to 18381 μg/kg of dry matrix. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the replicates on the concentrations of individual compounds ranged from 5% to 20%. The accuracy of method was estimated by analyzing “blank” samples added of known quantities of analytes and the recover percent…

Indagine comparativa sulla popolazione nidificante di Fratino Charadrius alexandrinus (Aves, Charadriiformes) nelle saline della Provincia di Trapani

2016

Comparative survey on the population of the Kentish plover Charadrius alexandrinus in the salt pans of Trapani province. This paper deals with a 2016 census of the breeding population of the Kentish plover in the saltpans of trapani and of the Stagnone di marsala. In the same area a previous census of this species was carried out forty years ago by Massa (1977). the comparison between data collected in the 1970s and in 2016 reveals that the population of the Kentish plover has been dramatically declining, with 70% decrease in the overall area (ca. 1,230 ha). Although responsibile for an additional 8% reduction of wetlands in the last few decades, direct human intervention is not likely to b…

Ecology and technological capability of lactic acid bacteria isolated during Grillo grape vinification in the Marsala production area

2011

Grapes of the “Grillo” variety, used to produce Marsala wine, were harvested from five vineyards with different climatic and agronomic parameters, in order to obtain a first mapping of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) inhabiting the production area. Marsala base wine production was followed at a large-scale, and also two experimental vinifications, with different lysozyme and SO2 concentrations and in combination, were carried out at pilot-plant scale. LAB communities and conventional chemical parameters were periodically analysed. LAB were found on grapes at an average concentration of about 102 CFU g−1 which decreased during the transformation process. A total of 146 colonies were collected, bu…

The spread of the Atlantic blue crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun 1896 in the Mediterranean Sea: analysis of environmental and trophic niche and metal…

2023

Biological invasions are globally acknowledged as one of the major causes of biodiversity loss. Considering the urgency of understanding what are the effects of biological invasions on recipient ecosystems, this research focuses on the Atlantic blue crab Callinectes sapidus, one of the most successful invaders of Mediterranean coastal ecosystems. First, a general assessment of the overlap of the Grinnellian niche of the species in native and invaded ranges was carried out to verify whether the blue crab maintained the characteristics of its climatic niche when establishing in invaded areas (niche conservatism hypothesis) or, alternatively, it adapted to the specific abiotic characteristics …

BIOMONITORAGGIO DELL’INQUINAMENTO ATMOSFERICO MEDIANTE L’USO DI LICHENI COME BIOACCUMULATORI NEL CENTRO URBANO DI MARSALA (TP)

2008

In ogni sta…

The Stagnone of Marsala lagoon

2009

The Stagnone of Marsala is an oligotrophic lagoon situated on the western coast of Sicily. The area has been under study since the mid-nineteenth century. Research has focused on its physiographic, chemical-physical, biological, ecological features and, particularly, on submerged vegetation. Its main biotic component, a meadow of Posidonia oceanica, is distributed among peculiar reef formations inside and outside the lagoon, which are extremely interesting from an ecological and environmental point of view. The seagrass grows near to its thermal and salinity tolerance level in the inner lagoon, where it is partially replaced by Cymodocea nodosa and Caulerpa prolifera meadows. Algal assembla…
